YJ: And wo shi Yajie. Now you are in our traveling week. 
Cam: That’s right! And today we are going to focus on taxis and buses.
YJ: But first, key words of the day.

You’re going the wrong way. 您走错路了。(nin2 zou3 cuo4 lu4 le.) You have missed your stop. 您坐过站了。(nin2 zuo4 guo4 zhan4 le.)  The subway station is just around the corner. 地铁站就在拐角处。(di4tie3 zhan4 jiu4 zai4 guai3 jiao3 chu4) All in today’s Chinese Studio.

Cam: The other day I went to a restaurant, it was not a large one, so it was not easy to find. Somebody told me您走错路了。(nin2 zou3 cuo4 lu4 le.) Does that mean I’ve taken the wrong way? 
YJ: Yes, that also happens to me sometimes, since I always get lost!. Let’s take a look at this sentence. 您 (nin2) the polite form of you. 
Cam: 您 (nin2)
YJ: 走 (zou3), to walk. 
Cam: 走 (zou3)
YJ: 错 (cuo4), cuo, the fourth tone, means wrong.
Cam: 错 (cuo4). Then what’s Chinese for right? 
YJ: It’s 对 (dui4), also the fourth tone. 
Cam: 对 (dui4)
YJ: 路 (lu4), means road or way. 
Cam: 路 (lu4).
YJ: 走错路 (zou3 cuo4 lu4), to go the wrong way. 
Cam: 走错路 (zou3 cuo4 lu4)
YJ: 您走错路了。(nin2 zou3 cuo4 lu4 le.) You’re going the wrong way. 
Cam: 您走错路了。(nin2 zou3 cuo4 lu4 le.)

Conversation 1:

Cam: Sometimes when taking bus, I also miss the stop.
YJ: Then you may hear the conductor saying 您坐过站了。(nin2 zuo4 guo4 zhan4 le.) You’ve missed your stop. 
Cam: 您坐过站了。(nin2 zuo4 guo4 zhan4 le.)
YJ: 您 (nin2), you. 
Cam: 您 (nin2)
YJ: 坐 (zuo4) here means to take a bus. 
Cam: 坐 (zuo4)
YJ: 过 (guo4) here means miss...
Cam: 过 (guo4)
YJ: 站 (zhan4) is stop or station. 
Cam: 站 (zhan4)
YJ: 坐过站 (zuo4 guo4 zhan4) is “miss the stop”
Cam: 坐过站 (zuo4 guo4 zhan4)
YJ: 您坐过站了。(nin2 zuo4 guo4 zhan4 le.) You have missed your stop. 
Cam: 您坐过站了。(nin2 zuo4 guo4 zhan4 le.)

Conversation 2:

Cam: I think it’s quite a good way to travel around Beijing by taking the subway. 
YJ: Right. You can avoid those traffic jams. 
Cam: Yajie, I want to know what’s the Chinese for “the subway station is just around the corner” I live right near the station, and sometimes I have to tell people how to get there!
YJ: Ok, 地铁站就在拐角处。(di4tie3 zhan4 jiu4 zai4 guai3 jiao3 chu4).  
Cam: 地铁站就在拐角处。(di4tie3 zhan4 jiu4 zai4 guai3 jiao3 chu4) 
YJ: 地铁站 (di4tie3zhan4), the subway station.
Cam: 地铁站 (di4tie3zhan4)
YJ: 就 (jiu4), just. 
Cam: 就 (jiu4)
YJ: 在 (zai4) at somewhere. 
Cam: 在 (zai4)
YJ: 拐角处 (guai3 jiao3 chu4).corner.
Cam: 拐角处guai3 jiao3 chu4), corner. 
YJ: 在拐角处 ( zai4 guai3 jiao3 chu4), around the corner. .
Cam: 在拐角处 ( zai4 guai3 jiao3 chu4). 
YJ: 地铁站就在拐角处。(di4tie3 zhan4 jiu4 zai4 guai3 jiao3 chu4).  The subway station is just around the coner.
